We just concluded a great music video project for one of our American based Nigerian clients who had to fly all the way here to shoot a music video for their new single. Working with each of our clients is always a very unique experience and for our new clients, we love to know how they found out about us. For some, its a direct referral from a past or existing client and for others especially for this particular one, they put in a bit of effort to find the best team for their project. Based off the story we heard form our client, here’s what we recommend you do if you are in the market to find the best director and film production team for your next project.

For the sake of confidentiality, lets call this client Max. So according to Max, he had just concluded the production for his new Afro hit music and he wanted to execute the music video here in Africa but the problem was that he had never worked with an African filmmaker. So the first thing he did just like many of us was, he got out his phone and started his search for the best director who could bring his vision to life.

According to Max, he scrolled through his phone, searching for potential collaborators, and as he recounted his story, I could see through his eyes, the frustration he went through during this process. Many of his attempts fell short. Each director he reached out to had promised the moon and stars, but when it came time to deliver, their visions clashed like discordant notes in a cacophony of chaos.

Many of us would give up at this time after a series of set backs but not Max. The thing is when you want to work with the best, you must be willing to do the required research to ensure that you get the best. With the way the internet is designed, it may be easy for some people to find what they are looking for and for others it may not but the fact remains that if you know what to look out for, you will find it.

If you are like Max, currently researching for the best director to bring your vision to life, you should scour the internet for portfolios. Watching music videos with a discerning eye will help you find directors whose visual style resonate with your own musical aesthetic. You should seek the harmony between sight and sound.

Another big thing is communication. Max shared with us how he had compiled a shortlist of promising candidates and reached out, scheduling meetings to discus their vision for the music video. Of course he didn’t give us the details of his conversations with other directors but just like Max, you should look out for a director that understands your vision intuitively. During your conversations with your best fit director, you should sense some harmony as your ideas bounce back and forth.

A great director would usually have a keen eye for detail and passion for storytelling, they will understand your vision on a level that transcended words. Your ideas will flow together effortlessly, weaving a tapestry of sight and sound that should leave you breathless with excitement.

With our team onboard, the real work began. Together, with Max, we scouted locations, auditioned talent, and meticulously planned every shot, ensuring that each frame would be a masterpiece in its own right.

As the day of the shoot arrived, Max could not contain his nerves and excitement that had mingled in the air like the prelude to a grand symphony. But with our team at the helm, Max felt a sense of calm, knowing that his vision was in capable hands.

And when the final cut of the music video premiered, it was nothing short of magical. Each frame was a testament to the power of collaboration, a fusion of music and visual artistry that spoke to the soul.

Finding the right director for your project is not just about technical skill or creative vision. It is about finding a kindred spirit, someone who shares your passion and understands the language of the heart and art.

So to you the aspiring musician out there, searching for the perfect maestro to conduct your symphony of sight and sound, remember this: the journey may be long and arduous, but when you find that perfect harmony, the result is nothing short of extraordinary.

When you are looking to find the perfect director, it’s essential to seek out someone who not only possesses technical skill but also shares your passion and understands your vision. With the right collaborator by your side, your music video can become a work of art that resonates with audiences for years to come.
